One time I was talking with someone and telling them about rigging something up at home. I was a little embarrased, but at the time, thats all I had access to.
They said something that stuck with me... "Knowledge is knowledge."
Even though it wasn't the best of the best, in terms of gear, location, etc... I got some really good hands on about concepts, gear, limitations, what stuff does, and tons of other stuff. Plus, I got to listen to the music I wanted to all day while "playing" around with gear.

When it comes down to it... You HAVE to practice in some way. I used to train jiu-jitsu, and there was this sweep we learned in a seminar. I didn't have a training buddy at home to practice it on, so I used this teddy bear. All you need to do, it get the reps in somehow.
