Ah, yes... Conversions. I thought I had this down a few years ago... But it seems to have popped up again.
I'm ordering some wire strops, and trying to figure out which ones to get. What I've come across, is that they have them measured in cm. CM!?!?! Come on...
I guess its pretty common, but my brain does not know how to compute that right now...
I know that in the medical field, they use cm a lot... Maybe to describe the lenth of a gash, or something like that.
When the order comes in... I'll post some pictures of measurements and see if my cheat sheet compares.
Below is a simple conversion cheat sheet that I made to help with basic and common lengths you might see.
*Update (6-19-2024):
Something you might see around here are that I love cheat sheets...
Now, on my way home, I was thinking about the sizes of strops that a website listed. I was trying to imagine basketing around something like an I-beam, and trying to visualize how much would be hanging down on both sides... A roughly 4ft. strop would have a little less than 2ft. on each side...
Then, it hit me.
Okay, so I've measured ropes with a tape measurer and long rope tape before.
I thought it would be a good idea to hook the tape on a nail or something, lay the tape on the ground, and measure a few lengths of paracord (end to end) to be able to have a reference when ordering. I'll post a picture below of what I'm trying to do.
This will help with ordering stuff in the future, and just being able to throw it up around something to see if the length is what I want.
Petzl has a good video showing how to sling their new strops, and was to consider when doing so. I' trying to keep in mind the diameter of the object I'm slinging, the ability to equalize the strops if "choked" and the angle that hangs when attaching a carabiner.
